Care Information

The way you look after you hair extensions is as important as the way they have been fitted, if not more so. When extensions are maintained well and cared for they can be kept in longer and the hair will also stay as sleek, shiny and healthy looking as when it was first fitted.

We offer a full aftercare kit which includes shampoo, conditioner, a day-to-day hair treatment and a hair brush, please see price guide for more info.

General Information

·         The first thing that you may notice immediately after fitting of the extensions, and the day or two after, is that your scalp may feel tender. This is normal and will go away by the third day at the most. The cause of this is the added weight of the hair extensions and is nothing to worry about.

·         After your hair extensions have been fitted you should not wash your hair for at least 2-3 days in order to allow the bonds to harden fully. The longer you wait the better this will be for the durability of the bonds.

·         Before going to sleep, pull your hair back in a braid or loose tail. After sleeping, unravel the braid or loose tail and brush with a soft bristle brush from nape of neck up.

·         You hair extensions should not be worn for longer than 3 months. By this time your own hair will have grown by approximately 1.5 inches and the roots of your hair can start to tangle together with the extensions if you have not separated the bonds correctly, therefore it is not healthy for the hair if left.

Brushing Your Extensions

·         Natural fallout of your own hair may cause tangling between the bonds. Therefore it is necessary to brush from scalp to ends daily. Run your fingers between strand-by-strand extensions once or twice a day to keep bonds tangle-free and separated.

·         Remember your extensions are attached to your own natural hair, pulling too hard or mistreating your extensions can result in your own hair being pulled out.

·         The only brush you should use near to your extension bonds is an extension brush – this brush has soft bristles and a cushioned bristle base, meaning the brush gently glides over the bonds.

·        When brushing the extensions always hold the bonds, making sure no additional stress is put on the hair.

Washing Your Extensions

·         Your extension hair should only be washed between 2-3 times per week.

·         Before washing it is advised to detangle your extension hair with a wide tooth comb and separate the bonds.

·         It is essential you only use shampoo and conditioner that is designed for hair extension use.

·         Hold your head backwards or in the direction the hair is styled. Do not bend over as this could cause tangling.

·          Apply shampoo to the scalp diluted with lukewarm water. Massage the scalp carefully with the fingertips. Rub gently, spreading the shampoo over the entire scalp, without ruffling the hair. The extensions are cleansed by the shampoo that flows over them.

·         Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water, while sorting the hair with the fingers.

·         Use the recommended conditioner and carefully apply to the hair ends only. Do not apply any conditioner to the bonds as this will cause slippage.

·       Leave in for 5 or 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly while detangling the hair with your fingers.

·         Gently pat hair dry with a towel. Preferably let the hair dry naturally and style with rollers or hairdryer.

·         Be very gentle when combing or brushing the hair when it is still wet ensuring that you don’t pull at the hair.

·       When blow drying work your way towards the ends of the hair. Do not hold the dryer too close to the bonds as this will cause them to soften and tangle.

·        Do not sleep on wet hair. Sleeping on wet hair may cause tangling and matting of the hair and softening of the bonds, resulting in hair shedding.

Drying Your Extensions

·         Before detangling we advise you to use a leave in conditioning spray. Follow by detangling with a wide tooth comb, making sure you avoid the bonds.

·         Be very careful when brushing the hair when wet, make sure you support the extensions hair by holding the bonds. Be very careful that you do not snag the bonds.

·         Hair extensions allow you to style your hair using many normal hair techniques. Blow drying and hot irons should not damage your extensions. However, do not place a hot iron or any other hot styling tool directly on the bonds as they may soften or melt.

·         It is advisable to use a Heat Protection Spray to protect the both your hair and the extension hair.

·         Make sure all bonds are dried completely.

Using Styling Products on Your Hair Extensions

·       Apply a leave-in conditioner so the hair is soft and manageable. Using a leave-in hair treatment helps prevent the hair from drying.

·        If too much leave-in treatment is applied, the hair will feel too heavy due to build up. To treat dry hair or hair that has become heavy due to buildup, wash it with a good Shampoo and Conditioner.

·       It is best not to use hairspray on hair extensions, as this can cause the hair to matt and tangle.

·         Applying products too close to the roots may permeate and soften the bonds. This may result in shedding or loss of the hair extensions, and create difficulty during the removal process.

Colouring / Perming Your Extensions

·        All hair we use is 100% Human Hair and can be coloured.  Please consult a professional if you want to colour the hair, especially to lighten the hair.  We recommend a strand test at all times before colouring the hair.  Do not get any dyes or bleaches on the bonded areas. Any colouring of the extensions is done so at your own risk.

·         All of the hair can be permed, but once again we recommend that a professional carries out the perming and make sure a strand test is completed first. Any perming of the extensions are done so at your own risk.

·         You may get your roots touched up after your hair starts to grow out without any problems, once again avoid the bonds.

Day to Day Activities and How They Effect Your Extensions

·         If you use a sun bed it is advisable to wrap the hair in a towel first.  Sun beds can dry out the hair and melt the bonds.

·         If you work out regularly or have regular use of a sauna or steam room make sure the bonds are completely dried as soon as possible after your session - leaving the bonds in a constant damp environment could cause them to deteriorate.

·       Wear a cap while swimming or keep your hair out of the water to prevent prolonged exposure to chlorine or salt water. Exposure to chlorine or salt water may cause the hair to tangle. We recommend pre-wetting your hair with water then applying a recommended conditioner before swimming. This will keep the hair from absorbing too much chlorine or salt water.

·       Always wash the hair right away with a good shampoo and conditioner after swimming in either type of water.

·         When going to the spa, the hair should be brushed out completely and should be wrapped in a cold wet towel. Even the best extension hair has been known to mat up the instant it is exposed to salt water. Matting can also result from perspiration.

·         You may wear your extensions abroad but be aware that a combination of the sun, chlorine in the swimming pool and salt in the sea water may make them a little dryer then normal.  Try to wear a hat when the sun is beaming down on your head – this protects the bonds.

Pregnancy and Hair Extensions

·       We do not advise getting Hair Extensions if you are pregnant or for one year after having a baby.
